Majeediyya School Cadet / Maldivian cadet corps

Cadetting in Majeediyya School began on the 19th of March 1945 by the name 'KHAA-SA PARTY'. This compiled of 60 students who were Majeediyyan then. This movement of cadetting in Majeediyya School and its activities was foundered by president, and Education Minister and the Principle of Majeediyya School AL- AMEER MOHAMED AMEEN DIDI.

The aim of this 'KHAA-SA PARTY' was to compile a team of students who would take responsibility in maintaining discipline in among students. And to improve the skill of discipline, obedience and Punctuality. And also, to produce citizens who are willing to stand up on Nation's call.

Khaki coloured two pocketed shirt and shorts with a sarong supported by a cloth belt called the "Soaru fothikolhu" with a khaki coloured round cap. This party was trained under two officers, Sergeant Annabeel Ibrahim Habeeb and Sergeant Bandhu Mohamed Kaleygefaanu. Except for basic food drill, swimming and boat sailing abilities are compulsory.

Modern day cadetting was established when Majeediyya School remodeled it's educational scheme to English Medium and modified its management in 1960's.

Mr. J. V. Hill, a Sri Lankan, appointed as the new principal of Majeediyya School changed the name of "The Movement" to "Majeediyyan Cadet Corps" MCC… This name was used as the latter as well as the "Maldivian Cadet Corps".The first presenting of arms to cadets was held on 25th of August 1963 after cadets have taken an oath, with the presence of the head of the Government. Cadets were trained under a Sri Lankan by the name of Mr. Naana Yakkar. Cadets were formed up in two groups with the leadership of Mr. Ambaree Abdul Sattar and Mr. Queen Mohamed Naeem respectively.

Majeedhiyya Cadets participated in a cadet camp held at Dhiyathalawa, Sri Lanka in 1966. 23 cadets competed with the Sri Lankan Cadets and achieved first place in shooting and 4th place in squad drill. On 1968 cadets participated another training camp held at Dhiyathalawa and achieved first place in squad drill and light machine gun firing, and second place in hut inspection. A total of 25 cadets participated in this cadet camp.

Apart from cadeting, in 1965 Majeediyya School Brass Band was introduced. The band was trained by Mr. Semidon. A special parade by the 'Khaa-sa Party' was publicly shown to mark the National Day on 1st of Rabeeul Awwal 1366. a total of 24 cadets participated in this event of which NSS Corporal Bandhu Moosa Kaleygefaanu was the commander of this parade. Commanding was done in Dhivehi.

Modern day cadetting was introduced on 4th November 1964 when MAJOR G.W. AMARSEYNA took over as a cadet master in Majeediyya School MAJOR G.W. AMARSEYNA's deducted service in cadetting is bestowed and appreciated in the history of cadetting in Majeediyya School. As well as cadetting in national wide MAJOR G.W. AMARSEYNA served Majeediyya School untill 1996. under the guidance of MAJOR G.W. AMARSEYNA cadetting and it's trainings improved, and a total of 3 cadet training camps at different levels were held throughout the year.


THE INAUGRATION OF THE CADET CORPS ACTIVITIES IN THE MALDIVES

The cadet activity started at Maldives in the name of “Khaassa Party” on 19 th March 1945. A total of 60 students from Majeediyya School were selected to join this party. Founder of the cadet movement was Al'Ameer Mohamed Ameen Didi who was the President and the Education Minister and also the Principal of Majeedhiya School. The aim of this activity was:-

> To Develop Prefect who would contribute to maintain discipline of students.
> To inspire school leavers, to be loyal, obedient and be prepared to serve the Nation as it calls.
> To demonstrate the imposture of obeying orders and punctuality.

KHASSA PARTY UNIFORM

Khaassa party wore khaki uniform with side pocketed shorts and was decorated with a cloth belt called the “soaru fothikolhu” which supported a white sarong “Mundu”. They wore a round khaki cap as a head gear.

KHASSA PARTY TRAININGS

Police officers Sergeant Annabeel Ibrahim Habeeb, Sergeant Bandhu Mohamed Kaleygefaanu took responsibility for the training of Khaassa Party. They were trained in foot drill, swimming and boat rowing was made compulsory to them.

DEVELOPMENT OF CADETING

This movement was developed and modernized with the implementation of English medium studies in Majeedhiya School in 1960.
Mr.JV Hill, the Principal of Majeedhiya School, took charge of the activity and renames the party as MCC (Majeedhiya Cadet Corps), sometimes they were addressed as the Maldives Cadet Corps.

CADETS TOOK THEIR OATH AND WERE HANDED ARMS

On a Ceremony held on the e 25th August 1963 cadets took their first Oath and were given arms. This special oath taking ceremony was held in the presence of the government Ministers.
Mr.Nanayakarr, a Sri Lankan gave the trainings and was in charge of the activity. Cadets were divided into two companies; Mr. Anbary Abdul Sattar and Mr. Quan Mohamed Naeem were the in-charges for these companies
